Barb - I think it's great that you did some "research" on the subject. Sometimes in my classes I'll say something about the fact that they IM and some students are amazed that someone my age knows about IM'ing. When I tell them that I also know how to text message they can't believe it! The fact that I can multi-task is something else they find amazing. So the fact that your students felt uncomfortable IM'ing you, but that there was no disbielief that you could actually do it says so much about you and your students.
